Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is our mom's birthday. We just returned from taking her out to dinner at one of her favorite restaurants (she has a few). We went to a Japanese Seafood buffet called O-Nami in Torrance, Ca. She loves the crab claws, shrimp tempura, mini lobster tails, oysters on a half-shell and, of late, sushi. We like going to this restaurant not only for the food but also for the wait staff. We had JAG's 1st birthday party there and the waitresses always remember us...even when it's just hubby and me, sans kids, they remember to ask where the children are. The midgets like the attention they get from the waitresses and the balloons they receive as parting gifts. Since it was mom's birthday, the restaurant gave us a $25 gift certificate for our next visit. That was another bonus. All in all, we had a great time.

Fridge Door Project: Credit where Credit is due

Duh! I was so excited to do the project below and forgot to give Toni at Wifely Steps the credit for starting it to begin with. Anyone who wants to join in on the project can do so by taking a photo of your fridge and blog about it. Just let Toni know by posting a comment on her blog so she can post the results/updates on hers. Thanks Toni.

What's on your Ref's Door? - In Our Kitchen

What's on your Ref's Door? - In Our Kitchen

So I was looking at my sisters post (In Our Kitchen) and I had to laugh when I thought about the question and what's on my refrigerator door. Like my sister, I, too, am a "collector" when it comes to the door. My old fridge was covered with magnets from all the places I visited over the years, magnets that showed my attitude, cute magnets, magnets with pictures of my nieces and kids; the "important" post-it's, coupons and magnetized cards from the dry-cleaner down the street to the local realtor wanting my business. Don't know what it is with magnets, I just loved them. Then my hubby said he wanted to re-do the kitchen, complete with new appliances. Yippee, I say. He buys me this new stainless steel refrigerator. Problem: Magnets won't stick to stainless steel!!!! (I always suspected that he didn't like all my magnets, especially my attitude ones)Another problem: the midgets' finger/palm prints are always evident! I've been duped!
What's a magnet pack-rat to do? Creativity, my dear, creativity. I painted the utility door (that hides the water heater) by the laundry room with blackboard paint and hung a metal memo board for my magnets, voila. The midgets like the blackboard part, it gives them a space to exercise their artistic streak. Of course, the little square of metal doesn't take the place of my old refrigerator but it's a compromise. I just have to stop myself from thinking about the chalky hands getting their own juice from inside the fridge. It's one of those "let go and let g-d" events. And what of my precious magnets, you say? Along with the kitchen re-do came what we now like to call the "junk drawers", of course.

My Easter Bunnies

Jag and GG received their Easter package that was sent to them by their cousins in North Carolina. I didn't know what the boxes contained (since I had a mommy-moment and forgot that my sister told me ahead of time that it was on its way) and opened them a week earlier than intended. Ooops. Well, the girls just went bunny wild with their treats. I had to hide the loot after the bunnies went to sleep and prayed that they'd forget about it the following day...no dice. Everyday they plead, bugged and down-right harassed me for the goodies and I would break down and dole out a small taste of chocolate a day, each time promising that they would get the whole kitnkaboodle come Easter.
And this is them on Easter after I said it was time to go to g'mas house AND that they can have the rest of the Easter basket treats AND that they can hunt for more at g'mas!

I think next to Christmas, Easter is now one of the girls favorite holiday. Oh wait, they like Halloween, too. Never mind, I guess I have two party girls on my hands and they just love to party, even if it's just the two of them.

Here they are on the hunt for the elusive Easter eggs hiding in the "forest of darkness" (that's what they call g'mas backyard). Hope everyone had a fun Easter holiday, I know my bunnies did.
